Our Horses

Gypsy's Gait Stables

Gypsy

Age: 24 Years

Gypsy is an American Mustang from Utah. She was rounded up as a yearling and given to a little girl as a Christmas present. When the family realized that an almost 2 year old wild mustang was not a good fit, she went up for sale. When I saw her standing so little and pigeon toed - I loved her. When she wrapped her head around me in a hug I knew she was my heart horse. My parents took a chance buying an untrained mustang for their 12 year old’s first horse but it turned out to be life changing. I taught her the world was not trying to eat her and she taught me that it's okay to hit the ground and to just get back up. She is a one person horse, like most mustangs, so she does not usually work lessons unless they are ground work. She does still help me train the newbie horses and is the best trail boss around.

Cue the Confetti (Confetti)

Age: 11 Years

Confetti came in with her sister, Bootsy, and brother, Navajo, on Valentine’s Day. I got a call that three horses needed a good home after their current owners couldn’t care for them anymore. They had not seen a farrier in a while and her feet looked like pancakes. Our wonderful farrier is slowly getting her hooves back to normal. Confetti quickly figured out how we teach lessons and seems to enjoy her job. She is the perfect mount for any level of rider and can do most any type of lesson. She is a bit lazy and loves to take naps but will work for food! She was very loved in her previous home so she doesn’t have any reason not to love people.

Against All Odds (Gideon)

Age: 11 years

Gideon’s previous life is a bit of a mystery. He has a few scars and two brands that we just cannot trace. He more recently was a companion for a gelding owned by a young girl. When she went to college she decided to place her horses in good homes. Since he was not very easy to ride and did not seem to know much, we were a good fit! At first we butted heads, but after working out the kinks he decided it was not so bad here. Since coming to us, Gideon has turned into quite the perfect pony. He jumped right into lessons and adores kids. He can be a bit stubborn as you advance, but it makes him a better teacher. He is up for any type of lesson and is one of my go to picks. Currently he is coming out of rehab for his Navicular. Check out his blog to follow his story! He hopes to resume lessons in 2024

Calypso’s Kiwi (Kiwi)

Age: 20 years

I got a call that a barn was in foreclosure and they had a herd of 22 horses that needed immediate help. As we walked around the paddocks looking at the horses and trying to decide which ones would go to what homes we noticed a miniature horse. The second my mom saw her she said, ”No other horses get on the trailer unless she does.” The mini was owned by the barn owner's daughter. She had been loved and cared for her whole life. Even tolerating being dyed as a my little pony once. So we picked her up and put her on our trailer and she quickly became the pasture boss. She has been the perfect babysitter, cart pony, unicorn, show horse, and walked many miles in birthday parties and lessons. She is suited for smaller kids in lessons or in pony parties.

Dolly’s Red Velvet Cake (Dolly)

Age: 24 Years

Dolly came to us when a friend rescued her from foundering in a pasture full of grass. After our wonderful farrier fixed her feet, she started working in lessons. She was up for any challenge and continues to teach any level of rider. She was our go to choice for teaching beginner jumping as she is very consistent and safe. She is not afraid of anything and boldly leads her friends into any situation. She is a red head so she had the typical red mare attitude but as she ages she seems to mellow. Dolly is suited for any type of lesson but doesn't do much canter or jump work anymore.

Lil Bit of Vice (Vice)

Age: 13 Years

Vice is an OTTB from Oklahoma. She came off the track and was shipped to a home in South Carolina. Our farrier reached out when that home had to re-home their horses and move. They were very worried about Vice and wanted her in a good home. I cannot say no to a horse in need so, of course, she came to us.

Since making Gypsy's Gate her home, Vice has became a barn favorite on the ground. She is so curious, loving, and wants to be with people. Vice is working with the big girls and is very happy to have a job. She would stand all day to be groomed and loves to work ground lessons. Vice is best suited for very beginner lessons or intermediate and up currently. She loves to jump and go fast or just walk but needs instruction for everything in the middle.

Holly

Age: 19 years
Holly came to us after a few years living it up in a pasture. She had begun to loose weight and her previous owners were worried about her going through the winter. After the vet came to check and float her teeth she started on her new diet. As she slowly gained weight she also started to warm up to our routines. On her first day here she had quite an attitude jumping around and not wanting to be tied. It didn't take long at all for her to realize she really enjoys kids and the love and treats they bring. She has become a very solid lesson horse who is always happy to be involved. Holly is suited best to walk trot lessons but is able to canter and jump as needed.

Perfectly Piper (Piper)

Age: 11 Years

We rescued Piper’s mother, Moonshine, and were told she could be bred. As we cared for the very skinny mare we were very concerned about her possible foal since she had been eating fescue. When Piper was born, her sack was too tough and I had to break it open to get her out. She was not breathing and I had to do CPR. By the grace of God, she woke up! We loved on our special little filly and always said she would probably be a pasture pet. When she turned from brown to varnish in her third year, I thought, "Well, at least she’s pretty now! Maybe we can work with her and see what she can do." She was one of the easiest horses I have ever trained and really loved having a job. She quickly became my sister's horse and taught Kylee how to be the rider she is today. She can do it all and will happily do whatever you ask. She is suited for any lesson and is truly perfect! She is only used for our program on special occasions as she is my sister's personal horse.

Athena Rose(Thea)

Age: 7 Years

Athena is a very special little lady. She was purchased with love as a foal to become an eventing horse. She was given all of the attention and training needed to grown into a solid horse. As she grew her owner realized she was not going to be as big as either of her parents therefore making her too small for their needs. They set out to find her the perfect fit for her to thrive. When a fellow barn owner shared pictures of a cute little appaloosa of course had to bring her here! Athena has quite the puppy dog personality loving all of the attention from her new fan cub. She is learning how to behave like a kids lesson horse and can be ridden by our more experienced students. We hope she joins lessons soon as we can see a bright future for this girl!

Mardi Belle

Age: 15 Years

Mardi is an OTTB from New York. She raced three times and then was sold to a home as a broodmare. Our lovely farrier got the call she needed help when the barn owner passed away and the horses were looked after. She made the trip to SC skinny and nervous. We took her and worked to help her become a lesson pony. She took a few years in training, learning how to be calm and how to ride easy. She loves to jump and go fast. Recently she was diagnosed with EPM. We noticed her balance wasn’t great and she seemed more tired than usual. After treatment her symptoms improved and she went back to work. After a few years her symptoms returned and we decided lessons and show were just too much stress. She is now a companion horse for hire as she is perfect with anyone in the field. She likes her semiretirement and enjoys an easier job.

Excellent Ways (Fancy)

Age: 24 years

Fancy is an OTTB from California. She had an uneventful racing career and then retired to riding. We do not know much about her early years, but it is obvious she had good training. Most recently, she was with a family that could not afford to keep her anymore. They were told she was a quarter horse and were very surprised when I flipped up her lip to show her tattoo. She has pin firing on her legs from her past life, but is in great shape for a 22 year old. Fancy likes things to be the same. She is happy to be the best lesson pony at home and is learning to be calm at shows. She gets nervous when things are different and needs extra love and food to keep her healthy! She is currently living her best retirement with the wonderful Putman family!

Don’t Tell Daddy (Ruisseau)

Age: 20 Years

Once again our farrier called us with a horse needing a home. Ru has quite the background story. He is a registered Hanoverian from California. He began his career training to become his owner's USEF dressage mount. However, he is a big boy, has lots of opinions, and ended up being too much of a horse for her. She sold him as a 8 year old to a man who then moved him up and down the East coast. He sold him many times and taking him back every time he did not work out. In his last home, he supposedly kicked his owner and was abandoned at a barn. When he came to us he was a bit skinny, had a large sarcoma on his ear, and had developed shivers. However, he is a big puppy and loves to be scratched and loved. With the pampering he deserves, he decided he would show off all of his fancy riding skills. He is now living it up in his retirement as a part of the scenery at a wedding venue.

Gerogia Smoke (Georgia)

Age: 8 Years

Owned and loved by Camryn Dellinger

I always refer to Georgia as our miracle/healer of a broken heart.  We had an unexpected death of the first horse we purchased who was actually pregnant at the time. One morning, we were expecting the birth of a foal, but unfortunately, received a call about her passing. Little did we know a miracle was in the making. A week later after this tragedy, a selfless lady we had never met and we did not know, was giving us a filly that had been born to our horse that had passed, just 4 years earlier.

This woman had heard our story and just wanted to heal a little girl’s broken heart with the only goal our horse had ever had. Our hearts were mending, but with a lot of uncertainty. We were told that she could only be a pasture pet, she would always be a “bucker”, and our daughter was too inexperienced for a horse so wild. We had pretty much lost all hope in the 4 legs we had already fallen so hard for. I literally would pray to God, “let this horse find a good home because I don’t know what to do with all this chaos we’ve been dealt.” Then my prayers were answered with Olivia Valentine!

Olivia took our green horse with a bad reputation and gave her a chance! She let her be a the baby she is and has never turned her away or doubted her ability. She loves her as her own since day one!! She trained the “untrainable” and the things we were told could never happen, are happening!! From “this horse is too wild” to Camryn saddling her, ridding her, taking her to a shows and winning ribbons on her, to seeing her being a sweet mare for the lesson kids at the barn!! Every step is a blessing and we count every adventure, pure JOY!
